The Kims - mother and father Chung-sook and Ki-taek, and their young adult offspring, son Ki-woo and daughter Ki-jung - are a poor family living in a shabby and cramped half basement apartment in a busy lower working class commercial district of Seoul. Without even knowing it, they, especially Mr. and Mrs. Kim, literally smell of poverty. Often as a collective, they perpetrate minor scams to get by, and even when they have jobs, they do the minimum work required. Ki-woo is the one who has dreams of getting out of poverty by one day going to university. Despite not having that university education, Ki-woo is chosen by his university student friend Min, who is leaving to go to school, to take over his tutoring job to Park Da-hye, who Min plans to date once he returns to Seoul and she herself is in university. The Parks are a wealthy family who for four years have lived in their modernistic house designed by and the former residence of famed architect Namgoong. While Mr. and Mrs. Park are all about status, Mrs. Park has a flighty, simpleminded mentality and temperament, which Min tells Ki-woo to feel comfortable in lying to her about his education to get the job. In getting the job, Ki-woo further learns that Mrs. Park is looking for an art therapist for the Parks' adolescent son, Da-song, Ki-woo quickly recommending his professional art therapist friend "Jessica", really Ki-jung who he knows can pull off the scam in being the easiest liar of the four Kims. In Ki-woo also falling for Da-hye, he begins to envision himself in that house, and thus the Kims as a collective start a plan for all the Kims, like Ki-jung using assumed names, to replace existing servants in the Parks' employ in orchestrating reasons for them to be fired. The most difficult to get rid of may be Moon-gwang, the Parks' housekeeper who literally came with the house - she Namgoong's housekeeper when he lived there - and thus knows all the little nooks and crannies of it better than the Parks themselves. The question then becomes how far the Kims can take this scam in their quest to become their version of the Parks

Wow I wasn't expecting this movie to be so good, all the twist and events kept it very interesting . How can so many reach the conclusion, that the movie portrays how capitalism results in parasites. Honestly the poor could have just settled with the actually qualified son teaching English, the rich could have just fed the man in the basement, and everyone would be more or less fine! I think it shows what happens when people get greedy, whether that's poor people trying to become rich, well-established people trying to have secrets or rich people trying to optimize everything. At least I think it's worth seeing it more as human tendencies and less of capitalism bad.

Problem with Bong's movies is that they have very strong message. Snowpiercer, Okja, and now Parasite. Problem is that they're Bong's perspectives. And he wants to shove it down the audience's throat. And it's again apparent in this movie. It's painfully clear what he's trying to say in this movie. so apparent that it's immature. He's almost telling you what to feel and think at each moment.
And this trend in movies thesedays troubles me. In the old days, movies just told a story. And what each audience takes away are all their own and mostly different. What someone got out of Rocky was different that someone else. Now it's all telling you what to feel and what to think. And this trend is evident in games as well. Before, you had to explore and use creativity to solve puzzles and quests. Now, the games all tell you where to go and what to do. People are getting dumber and dumber thanks to these type of games and movies. It's actually opposite of what this movie is trying to say.
Gisaengchung movie streaming. Surfing the story sounds like a nice metaphor to me although I have never been surfing. Actually Americans are already late on recorgnizing their FILMs and me Korean Movies and Korean dramas are one of the Best movies Ive seen.(Old Boy, Parasite, The Man from Nowhere, The Host, Train to Busan, Miracle in Cell No. 7,The Masquerade) No wonder many people around the world are addicted in Korean dramas and movies, because their plot are so unpredictable and very unique. “Theyre rich but still nice” “Theyre nice because theyre rich” This alone says so much This movie was definitely not a slightest lose of time in my life A must watch move mid. Your friend is coming PSJ. She always ate enough for two. One of the best Drama-Thriller movie I have seen in years. Plot is fresh as ever. Cinemetography and character developement is at its best. Want to see more movies from Sir Bong Joon-ho.
This whole scene is so MAJESTIC... the movie is A MASTERPIECE. The film is perfect especially I checked twice the sence which the rain destroy the Home of Poor family and they did not have any place to go but in the Other hand for rich people the rain just make the weather better and the day after rain when Rich mother go to the city with poor driver she said : it is just blue Sky after rain night. the camera show a shot in Poor driver eyes who lost all his house because of the rain.

I truly loved this movie, its so well paced and its like pure art. People are upset that this movie won because its not made in the US. People need to realize that other places are making WAY better movies than what the US is crapping out these days which are remakes and horrible movies.
The look on the fathers face while picking up the bloody tissue was priceless.

And just when you thought the movie is finished being awesome, it still has time to give you an Inception style ending. What a masterpiece.

This sequence was the one that sold the entire movie worldwide. This film seems like it lasts forever and I mean that in the best way possible. Thats how you do great story building.
